I was looking at your web page for my mother, her maiden name is Hannabery.
However, her grandfather said the name originally was spelled Henneberry (Thomas) originally from Pennsylvania.

Have your run across any William Raymond Hannabery's or Thomas Henneberry's (from PA) in your research.

Thanks for any help you can give us.

I am descended from Thomas Henebery who was born 2 April 1831 in Ballybrazel Co Kilkenny Ireland. He was the son of John Henebery and Ellen Delahunty. He was the only one of his 11 siblings to emigrate to Australia. I have been told at least one other went to Chicago USA.I have further information concerning that family if you are interested. Some of the family still reside in Ballybrazel today.

Dear Ronn,
Thank you for responding to my query. After reviewing the Henneberry
web site I could not establish a link between Ann and the others.
I do not have any information about her and only learned her name
from the "History of Peoria Co., IL" having married Daniel Cunningham
Nov. 22, 1861. From the 1880 census she would have been born in 1844
in Kilkenny County,, Ireland. Daniel was born in Dublin in 1839, emigrated
in 1850 to Westchester Co NY and settled in Peoria in 1856 where he
was a blacksmith, musician and school director. The couple had 7
children (Eliz Berry, Annie Holscher,David, John, Nicholas, Matt and Edw)
I have been trying to find decendants and other information
from Peoria without success. Will keep trying. If I missed something
please let me know or if you have any other hints they too would be
very much appreciated. Sincerely, Bob Evers bobevers@sunet.net

Dear Hennebery descendant

I am just beginning to research my mother's family. The
Hennebery name in Australia in my mother's line will not continue,
as my mother's only brother had no children.

My great-grandfather was John Hennebery who married Anne
Boyle. My grandfather was born in Australia and married an Irish
girl, Anne Lennon from Athlone.

My mother used to speak of a relative who became a Nun in the US
and lived in Connecticut. I think a Carmelite.

I look forward to hearing from you.

I sure wish I could provide more information. The information I have is
about the Fitzgerald sisters, Catherine (my g-g-g) and Joanna, who came
from Co. Cork. They traveled together to California in the 1850's as
Joanna was engaged to a man named Tim Lynch and Catherine came as a
chaperone. I am descended from Catherine. We don't know if they came to
California directly from Ireland, or first lived for a time on the east
coast.

The story of Joanna continues that she married Lynch, maybe he died, and
then she married a man named Driscoll. In 1902, she was committed to a
sanitarium, and a letter was given to a lawyer listing the three
Henneberrys, along with another Bostonian named Kate Ryan, as
relatives. Catherine and Joanna Fitzgerald's mother's name was Ryan, so
maybe Kate was a spinster sister. We believe that there was at least
one other sister who married into this Henneberry family; or at least
that is how we account for these folks being listed as relatives. All
speculation at this point.

Thanks for checking on the Boston connection.

I am trying to get information about a Henneberry family in Boston.
They were listed as the closest living relatives of my g-g-grandmother's
sister, Joanna (nee Fitzgerald) Driscoll. A letter was given to her
lawyer (in California, 1902) that listed the names John W. Henneberry,
Mary A. Henneberry, and Edward Henneberry, all at 10 Bedford St, Boston.

Have you run across any information about these Henneberrys?

Henneberry (b. 12/11/1898, married to Elizabeth Agnes Williams), her

to have immigrated to this region from Northern Ireland.

However, our name is spelled Henneberry (two n's). Was it spelled like that in the record books you found or is that a

My name is Marc Frank Hennebery.
I have been researching the family name and found quite a few definite
relatives with the spelling "Henebry". If you research the Irish Times
Newspaper for March 17th of 1997, you will see an article about Fr. Richard
(Risteard de Hindeberg) Henebry.
My Great-Grandfather was Marcus Morton Hennebery (Henebry) born in
Washington, Vermont on August 18th, 1845. He enlisted and fought in the
Civil War, settled in West Warren, Massachusetts, took part in the Fenian
Invasion of Canada, and founded many chapters of the Ancient Order of
Hibernians.
There appears to have been 5 brothers who came over before 1845, John
Henebry being my Great-Great Grandfather. I recently met a distant cousin
from Massachusetts whose mothers maiden name was Winifred Henebry. He told
me that one of the five brothers settled in the Chicago area, heped found
the Chicago Stock exchange, and had a book publishing firm called Hennebery
& Donohue. There is a retired Air Force general in the Chicago area named, I
believe, John Philip Hennebery, who was the youngest General in WWII. If any
of this clicks, let me know.

Hello,

While checking the Internet, I came upon your web site for Henneberry
and had to write. My name is Richard Denike and I live in New York, just
oustide New York City. I have been searching my "Family Tree" for a
number of years now and as I'm sure you know, it can be very
frustrating.

My Great Grandfather, Edward J. Denike, married Ellen Hennebery (other
possible spellings I've found: Henneberry, Hennebury, Hanniberry,
Hannibury and Henebury) in Newark New Jersey on 18 September 1872
according to the New Jersey Archive Records. Parents for Ellen were
listed as Michl. & Cath. Hennebery. There is no record of any marriages
for Michael Hennebury and Catharine ? in the NJ Archives. Edward & Ellen
lived in Newark, NJ, Hackensack, NJ, Peekskill, NY and Yonkers, NY.
Ellen died in Yonkers, New York on 29 November 1919, Her death
certificate shows that she was born in Newark, NJ on 31 July 1852. The
1850 New Jersey Census for Newark shows that Michael Hennebury, 26 yrs
old, born in Ireland was living in the house of John Chadwich, 34 yrs
old and a Patent Leather/Silk owner. Also living in that house were
several other individuals including a Catharine Kelly, 22 yrs old born
in Ireland. The New Jersey Census for 1880 no longer shows Michael
Hennebury but does show Edward & Ellen Denike and the census indicates
that BOTH Ellen's parents were born in Ireland.

Now that you've read this long tale of mine I guess I should get to the
point. I have not been able to locate any other information relating to
the Henneberry's (regardless of spelling) just prior to and after
Ellen's marriage. Your site has the most information I've seen and I was
very interested if any of this information rings a bell with your
family. I would have to guess but I would say that Michael arrived in
the US around the 1845 - 50 range and since he was 26 in 1850, it would
put his date of birth around 1824.

Any information would be greatly appreciated as well as anything I might
be able to supply for you too.

Hi:

What a welcome sight is your page on the Henneberry family!  I thought I had
the only Henneberry person ever born in Ireland - cannot find any information.
However, your dates are so close that I am going to ask.

Bridget Henneberry b. ab. 1810 in (I thought ) County Kilkenny, IRE.
Bridget married Michael Connely.  They had the following children:
James b. 1833, did not marry
Bridget b. 1834, married Edward Sales; died between the 1870 and 1880 federal
census (U.S.)
Mary Ellen b. 1837 m. James or John Maher while still in Ireland
Laurence b. 1838 m. Mary Cashen in Shelby Co. Ohio
Johanna b. August 15, 1847 (my g-grandmother) m. Michael Egan in Dayton,
Montgomery Co. Ohio.
Catherine (could be Mary Catherine) b. 1849 m. Thomas J. Gilfoil in Dayton,
Ohio.

The family emigrated to the United States 1850-1855 and settled in Dayton,
Montgomery Co. Ohio.  Michael and Bridget lived with their son, James, on a
farm until they died - both in 1872.

Although the family story was that they came through Canada and Michigan to
Ohio, I have found no records.  There are no family records as they didn't
read nor write.  If there were any, they were lost in the 1913 flood in
Dayton.

If you have any information re Bridget Henneberry or clues for me to follow in
my research, I would certainly appreciate it.  The Irish families are my brick
walls; I cannot find anything on them.

Thanks for the Henneberry page, I will keep checking.
